PMI AGC Oman Region Organized Introductory Presentation at Bank Muscat (July 2012)

The Project Management Institute (PMI) - Arabic Gulf chapter (AGC), Oman Region (OR) have organized an Introductory Presentation session at Bank Muscat on Tuesday, 10th July 2012, "Emphasizing Organisations on the importance in adopting an approved approach in managing projects and holding Project Management Professional (PMP) Certificates in particular".

The presentation was presented into two parts by two of the key volunteering members of the PMI-AGC group in Oman Branch, where Mohammed Al-Ghanboosi the President of the Oman Branch presented the first part with expressing appreciation and gratefulness to Bank Muscat Management in hosting this event and he followed by welcoming the attendees who joined from various public and private sectors and entities with interests in knowing and building knowledge in Project Managements and related activities. Subsequently, Mohammed AL-Ghanboosi introduced Project Management Institute in general enhancing the importance that is gaining under the current transformation and crises that is impacting on the global economy; which pushes for further need in effectiveness and competencies in project managements that impact on large sectors in critical areas. In addition, Mohammed pointed out that under the competition in attracting experts to the region, there is no option to the project managers but to reinforce their skills through obtaining international professional practitioner certificates approved and recognized globally.

The second part of the presentation was presented by Saleem Rifai presenting an overview of history and the importance of Project Management Professional (PMP) Certificate currently, and how it became one of the most recognised International Certificates in the professional markets across all fields for example in Information Technology, Construction, Banking and other sectors that requires to manage their projects and works professionally. Following to that, Saleem presented steps on how to obtain the PMP Certificate and how to maintain the certificate per the requirements through continual training, actual practice and volunteering.

The Project Management Institute is a non-profitable public institute, involved in the art and science of project management, headquartered in United State of America and comprises of more than half- million members in more than 180 countries around the world. There are about 125 of PMI members in Sultanate of Oman from different disciplines, and 50 of them are PMP Certificate holders. These figures have seen a steady increase over the past years due to the increased awareness of professionalism in project management and increasing demand in the local professional market. One of the most main publications of Project Management Institute is the book under the title of ''A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide)—Fourth Edition'', in addition to many other specifications, books and Journals. The Project Management Institute holds periodic Regional and Global conferences that attract all members of PMI and the forthcoming International Conference is now planned to take place in The Kingdome of Bahrain in January 2013.
